The number one question that comes from the students of this course is: How do you set up boundaries after you have unraveled the information you glean from the workshop Feelings vs. Emotions? We point our students back to the resource given on page 12 of the workbook, and resources in the best-selling book Living Consciously In An Ego Driven Society. Both resources are given in this article as well as the purpose of this work.

We discovered in our last article the need to set up boundaries when people are gossiping. We also discussed depression and self-doubt as pointers to ask ourselves questions that lead to the ability to discern why our desire is not being fulfilled. We need to take action to meet our goals, but often times that means we have to communicate with ourselves in a way that is clear, concise, and sets up the parameters for health and life to flourish. This is where the art of setting boundaries is one of the most important factors.

Feelings vs. Emotions

Serious students who use the tools in the Living Consciously Education Program have seen the awareness that they need to set boundaries by cultivating skills found in the Feelings vs. Emotions toolbox. It is important to remember that whatever you perceive, you can achieve. If you begin to see scenarios where you achieve your goals, you must block out those things that do not align with your desired outcome.

As we know, our world is full of those who would mindlessly visualize a desired outcome and get no results. They give up because they do not achieve their desired outcome. They foolishly believe that the Laws of Conscious Living (how the material universe works) do not apply to them. What they don’t understand is that visualization is only part of the equation. They must get out of their own way. They must learn to nurture aspects of the material world to allow for their vision to be realized. This includes setting good and healthy boundaries for the highest and best good of all mankind, the Universe and everyone everywhere. We discuss this in the workbook Step Six – Feelings vs. Emotions, and offer you resources to do just that. In the TeleClass, we will walk you through the step-by-step instructions for realizing this hidden resource to teach you one of the most important Laws of Conscious Living.

Step Six – Feelings vs. Emotions: A Step To Living Consciously In Ego Driven Society (Volume 6)

From the time we enter into our family life or into the school system, we are taught to imitate facts, information, and habits that help us get along with others. If we’re fortunate enough, we have families and social structures to teach us good boundaries. If we are not fortunate, we must take the time to learn them later in life. The rest of this article will help you set the stage to create the mindset of healthy boundaries.

The desires to create success in our life become impossible when we try to break the status quo without knowing the skills.

Setting healthy boundaries create opportunities to follow the path of success. It is a journey and we who would dare to dream to create a difference take the steps to eliminate failure of realizing our dreams. We who live consciously, take action because we know it makes things happen. We’ve seen our participants achieve greatness by using the tools in the Living Consciously Education Program. Setting good boundaries can be broken down into a step-by-step process. This process is explained in detail in Chapter Three, in the subheading Being in Ego and How To Recognize The Signs on page 34 in the best selling book, Living Consciously: In An Ego Driven Society:

Let’s Recap:

  • Success comes when you understand The Nature of Emotions.
  • The misunderstanding of information that can be gleaned from feelings and emotions can cause suffering.
  • Those who learn the skills of interpretation have access to a hidden treasure trove of intelligence to help them navigate their journey to success.
  • We must learn boundary setting, if it is a skill we lack. Feelings vs. Emotions leads you to understand what boundaries need to be set before the drama is played out, creating upset.
  • Understanding how to set healthy boundaries and how to communicate those boundaries to those we spend our time with set the stage for success.
  • Seeing the value of these tools, previous students have taken the time to integrate the education and skills into their daily life.

In last month’s live workshop The Nature Of Emotions at the Yoga Society of New York :

The question came up, how do you stop gossip? We all know how gossip can be like a cancer that weakens the health of a business. Typically the person who is does the gossiping does not understand the damage they are doing. They are only looking for relief from their own pain, but there are times when gossip is a devious power play for the rise of personal gain. Understanding why the person who instigates the gossip is not important in the moment; the truth will reveal itself if you understand the Nature of Emotions.

Feelings vs. Emotions

During the class, we discussed dispassion and the art of non-attachment, the difference between dispassion and apathy, the energy vibration and karmic cost of apathy, and the neutrality of dispassion. Students learned why gossip can create unintentional meaning and does harm to everyone involved, while dispassion has no attachment, no meaning, no judgement and therefore does no harm.

The art of detachment is emotional intelligence; at it’s best it is the acceptance for what is. This is the place where peace and appropriate right action can be taken. Once one understands the process of Mental Alchemy to gain emotional intelligence within, they are able to stay neutral in the conversation.

Last week, we discussed the trap of the emotional dump. This is a place where credibility is lost, where permission and preparation are key elements to resolving the situation when faced with gossip. We discussed the art of non-agreement and how to avoid conflict when another person needs validation. The person who is gossiping needs to be validated, the gossip does not. The art of emotional intelligence can defuse and nurture the human heart, while the emotional dump only delays suffering in the moment, and adds energy to be expressed again.

Facing these issues with emotional intelligence by using the techniques in the Living Consciously Education Program opens up the amazing world of feelings and emotions. Everyone has them, and yet most people do not use the body and mind together to understand this mysterious world, a treasure trove to “Illuminate The Dark Corners of Your Bright Ideas©” GreenMountain Enrichment and Empowerment Center offers you Living Consciously In An Ego Driven Society©.

I worked with a client last week who is a serious student in the Living Consciously Education Program. They have begun to align their heart, soul, brain and emotions towards living with intention for their highest and best good. This is the natural progression of life as we use each step in the Living Consciously Education Program for self-inquiry and personal growth. Before they began, they were lost, heartbroken and really didn’t understand what they were doing with their life. They had sold their business, buried their parents, ended an unhealthy relationship, and recognized that they were not living the life of their dreams. They needed to find direction, but they were tired of having people tell them what they should do. Through the Living Consciously Program, they found their truth, they found themselves and they discovered the direction of their life. They discovered grace and gratitude, and what was left was happiness, contentment, and the deep appreciation for the beauty of this world.

This work allows you to reveal your deepest fears, pains, and old stories that hold you back so you might find what moves you, allows happiness to reveal itself, and recreate yourself into a new character that would live your life the way it was meant to be.

Create a powerful relationship with yourself through body intelligence.

State something that you deeply desire with all of your heart, but no matter what you do, you cannot achieve this desire. You are blocked from receiving it from some force in the universe. Why? The clues are available to you through the exercises we will discuss in the workbook Feelings vs. Emotions, the sixth step to Living Consciously In An Ego Driven Society. Today we give you an example of this exercise.

Notice your thoughts about your desire. Notice the feelings in your body. Notice the emotions you experience when you feel the feelings in your body.

Write down the question.

Sit in silence for 5-minutes.

Feel the feelings, emote the emotions and fully express your question.

Sit in silence for 20 minutes.

Notice answers that come to you. Write them down. Notice what questions come up next. Repeat this process until you have a clear vision of you achieving your desired outcome.

You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself any direction you choose.  – Dr. Seuss, Oh, the Places You’ll Go!

Tap into your Infinite Intelligence

Emotions share some very real biochemical links with your nervous, endocrine, immune, and digestive systems. Using emotional intelligence through mental alchemy allows you to transmute the biochemical response of the brain that links with your body. As you have experienced from the previous articles about emotional intelligence last month, you can discover how your body feels, the emotions stored, and the thoughts associated with the feelings in the body. Read more about using mental alchemy here.

We live in the appearance of a material universe. On one level of existence, we appear as a standing wave of reality. We interact with this material universe, and yet we know that we are much more than the body. However, the body has a wonderful intelligence of its own and we can tap into that information (as you’ve read about in the last few articles). But what is the infinite intelligence we hear about primarily when working on our spiritual practices? The infinite intelligence is the universal knowledge that our spiritual leaders tap into. But is it only for them? No, of course not. Once you are able to prepare your mind enough to silence it, the space it naturally goes is into the silence. This is where all information exists.

Feelings vs. Emotions

Mental Alchemy can be used in the body to transmute energy, it can be used in the brain to create a new perspective, and it can be used in the emotional body to transform one emotion into another. Silence is the place where you can tap into the universal consciousness of all that exists. The principle is explained through the mental nature of the universe, energy, and consciousness. Those who understand this truth and the mental nature of the universe have a key to knowledge. Once you begin to tap into the infinite intelligence that is waiting for you, solving problems of the dualistic nature of this material world becomes as simple as asking a question and waiting for the answer from the universe. After an answer is obtained, it is the responsibility of the receiver to explore the nature of the answer and how it relates to the material world.

Intuition is accurate insight and information that you have not gained through the everyday use of your five senses, intellect, or experience. It is a higher vibration than your five senses. The key to a successful life is going from a smooth path to quick transitions where you hit a bump and having the ability to instantly make the next move correctly.

Create Effective Intuition

Effective intuition is the awareness of your other senses, feelings, and gut reactions to a situation. By using the techniques taught in our upcoming teleclass Feelings vs. Emotions, you discover the number one mistake in communication that leads to conflict.

The problem with this mistake is that it tends to lead us down a road where we can misunderstand others and it leads us to jumping to conclusions that may or may not be true. The mistake is a human function that stems from the efficiency of brain. This brain function is designed for our survival, but it stops us from understanding the truth and we create imagined conclusions that lead to conflict. The conclusions may seem logical and honorable, but they should not be confused with intuition.

Feelings vs. Emotions

If an assumption leads us to believe something about another person that is harmful in our mind’s eye to us, we can begin to create a whole paradigm around the assumption; taking our assumption as fact can make us think another person is thinking bad thoughts or doing something to harm us. Then we blame them for something that may or may not be true. It’s funny how people do this.

We create a lot of issues for ourselves when we live this way, making an assumption, poisoning the other person with our thoughts, and acting as though the assumption is correct. I will share with you a quote from The Four Agreements by Don Miguel Ruiz about this type of situation:

We create a lot of emotional poison just by making assumptions and taking it personally, because usually we start gossiping about our assumptions. Remember, gossiping is the way we communicate to each other in the dream of hell and transfer poison to one another.

Emotional intelligence is a fundamental tool in my work as a Professional Business Coach. I work with my clients’ staff to remove gossip because it affects the entire business and can be a cancer that strips the business of its health, communication, customer service, and positive work environment.

Typical professional clients are having issues with their staff including gossip, bickering, blaming others, general dissatisfaction, complaining, too many sick days, and high turnover rates. Our professional clients are ready to resolve their internal issues and work with their employees. This saves them time, money, and provides stress relief that affects their bottom line. We offer solution-based coaching for a healthier work environment with on-site professional development.

Avoid the dangers.

The emotional dump is the place where you vent your emotions to another without their preparation or permission. Emotional dumping is a clear and concise sign that your skill of emotional intelligence needs upgrading. The trap of the emotional dump is that although you feel better in the moment of expression, the emotions return because you have not resolved your situation.

Feelings vs. Emotions

In the upcoming teleclass Feelings vs. Emotions, you will tap into your inner awareness of what happens to you when you lose your credibility, and how to regain it if you’ve previously been the person who dumps on others.

Learn to have compassion for yourself. Learn what to do when others begin to dump on you without your permission.

Discover the most powerful question to turn the energy and responsibility back on the offending comment. Discover how you can do this without intentionally causing a feeling of judgment in the offending person. This turnaround opens up an opportunity for the person to become thoughtful and begin to build a helpful outcome through solution-oriented thinking.

Tap into your power

Emotional awareness is a super power that you have within you. Tapping into this power can help you look at solutions from a different perspective once you have removed the “triggers” that lead your emotions to rule old issues. However, once you understand how to work with your triggers and use them for informational gathering, you gain power over your emotions. Using emotions in this way will help you navigate your body, mind and spirit to build a better relationship with your internal world, thus allowing you to create collaboration and cooperation in the external world through relationship building techniques.

Understanding your emotional state and how to determine next steps for solution building gives you an upper hand when negotiating in business and creating transparencies that lead to mutual trust. Why? When your emotions rule you, a part of you stops trusting your ability to think rationally to resolve conflict. When you begin to gain insight into your emotions, you are able to remove old stories that keep you trapped into cycles of disempowerment.

Feelings vs. Emotions

One of the key elements of our upcoming teleclass Feelings vs. Emotions is to evaluate your understanding of emotions and gain insight to determine how important emotional intelligence is to you in your current situation or in future situations with a particular issue or person.

One goal that came from this class for a client was she made a rule that she lives by; that rule is to only make life-changing decisions when she is not emotionally charged by a situation.

This process allowed her to stop an old pattern of running away from conflict and to instead learn how to negotiate effectively with others. This is the power of emotional awareness and intelligently honoring your emotions without being ruled by them.

How will you benefit from emotional intelligence? If you would like more tips like this and want to understand The Nature of Emotions in your daily life, please sign up for the Living Consciously Education Program informational email. Grasp the concept of mental alchemy.

How much do you know about Mental Alchemy?

Mental Alchemy refers to the art of changing and transforming one’s own mental states and conditions from a lower state of consciousness to a higher plane of awareness. It involves replacing negative emotions (self doubt, negativity, and anxiety) with positive ones (discernment, understanding, motivation).

When used properly, doubt can be the beginning stage of discernment. Turning doubt into discernment is a beautiful boundary setter, and allows you to begin to follow your heart. You will begin to see your life’s purpose this way.

Negativity and anxiety are also very helpful in pointing you in the direction of how you can transform what isn’t working for you. Utilizing these normal human responses to dissatisfaction offers you a gauge for your truth.

Learning to turn these emotions into motivational tools keeps you on your path as you develop the vision of your life. You will use these emotions to point you in the direction you need to go to in order to take corrective action in the future. As you learn to understand and utilize these emotions to your advantage, you will have less pain surrounding them, and they will return to a subtle field in your awareness. This technique works because one has ignored the subtle experience of the emotional states in the past, or by not knowing what to do with the information received.

During our upcoming teleclass, Feelings vs. Emotions on June 9th,  you have the opportunity to embrace these experiences and begin to learn to interpret the signals given by your body — the physical symptoms you experience as feelings.

You have the opportunity to transform your emotions. They can become part of your emotional intelligence gauge to help you navigate your world.

Emotional Intelligence begins with an important distinction.

Welcome to the amazing world of feelings and emotions. Everyone has them, and yet most people do not use the body and mind together to understand this mysterious world; a treasure trove of history exists within that can only be accessed through the present moment.

As social creatures, we can confuse the terms “feelings” and “emotions.” The confusion creates issues when speaking to others about how we feel, our intuition, intelligence of experience and wisdom through the application of our knowledge base.

Emotional Intelligence begins with this internal awareness. Signs of being in ego include feelings and emotional language of blame, shame, judgment, domination, guilt, and a disproportionate need to compete. When we recognize that we are caught up in one of these experiences, we can actually begin to retrain the biochemistry of our mind.

We do not want to stop the process of ego, but instead utilize it for our personal awareness and growth by adding a filter to our mental process. This filter is defined as awareness, or being the witness to expressions of the body. Using your awareness to observe your communication externally and internally allows you to avoid the trap of allowing thoughts that cause drama and trauma in your life to rule your daily interactions.

When it is time for a client to graduate from your coaching, do you have an exit strategy?

I have used one based on my unique value proposition.

Let me explain what I mean.

exitsign copyWhile going over my client list from the last seven years, I have found there are certain areas in their life that I offer great value. The value is repeatable, scalable, and consistent. But it is hard to put a price tag on the value clients receive from me — at least that was true once. Today, I know how to discuss my unique value proposition with clients, and help them understand how working with me will improve their business and life.

Often times, the value I provide is what is considered soft skills. These are skills that are often found in personal growth and development. These soft skills can not be evaluated through actual dollars, and are not easy to show the return on investment for the client.

What helped me determine what I bring to my clients was listening to them. Today I’ve compiled a list of values I bring and at the end of a coaching relationship, I send them an automated email series to help them review the value they have received. This is very helpful when they move out into the world, as it keeps you fresh in their mind. Since word of mouth is the best advertising, you have a fan for life that spreads the word about your work to those who could also receive value from it.

It also has helped me with my marketing content because I’m able to see the value that customers/clients get, and I’m able to emphasize these results.

I have determined three areas of life and business that clients receive value from when working with me in their business and life.

The list is below:
Self Esteem & Spiritual Growth

  • Heart-based spiritual selling
  • Creating better relationships with money
  • Helping to celebrate & champion attributes
  • Tapping into infinite wisdom
  • Learning to soar and let go of the binds that hold them down
  • Letting go of self-sabotaging by language like, “I’m not good enough” or “I don’t know what to do.”
  • Learning to stop calling themselves derogatory names; language affects our quantum field and they want to create positive language.
  • Defining success based on their terms and not other people’s preconceived ideas
  • Creating confidence in their right to be self-expressed
  • Wanting confidence and courage in themselves to grow in all areas of life
  • Wanting to stand for themselves in their business and stop letting life get in the way of their mission that they are here to fulfill
  • Accountability to keep the deep connections to their internal self and spirit connection
  • Consistently focusing and recognizing that they deserve their spiritual connection and internal wisdom
  • Realizing they are worthy

Life Skills Training

  • Stop putting attention to what doesn’t work
  • Beginning to put energy on the positive side of things
  • Setting up good boundaries for self-care
  • Encouragement in health and wellness to keep them on track
  • Knowing that they are capable of creating protection for emotional health
  • Encouragement to keep moving forward and become self-motivated
  • Letting go of the double standard they have set for themselves

Leadership & Professional Development

  • Healthy time management
  • Business structures and processes to keep their business healthy
  • Focusing on what is working and learning to duplicate it in their business and life skills practices
  • Helping with communication when dealing with conflict
  • Learning to stand for themselves and others in the face of rejection
  • Realizing they are working on too many things at once that are challenging enough, but they are not creating sustainability in their business
  • Learning to effectively increase their productivity while increasing their income
  • Building confidence in their credibility to stand strong when they receive doubt from outside forces
  • Trusting theirs skills to be willing to hear the truth, even if it hurts because it produces growth and sharpens their skills to build
  • Positioning themselves in front of their target market
  • Making the connections and grow their business
  • Pattern modification to consistently connect with others
  • Learning to stop trying so hard and start living in the flow of opportunity
  • Becoming a service-based leader in their community for balance, grace, and gratitude of their blessings

Exit Strategy 101:

Step 1:

Meet with the client and let them know they have graduated from your program.

Step 2:

Set up an appointment for two months from the date of the last appointment to check in; this should be a free call.

Step 3:

Send a series of emails to your client using drip marketing over a 5-day period.

Email #1: A thank you note letting them know how much you’ve enjoyed your time together. Let them know the value you have received from working with them. This should be authentic and generous. This is also something that I have automated because it is general, and yet specific to each client. Identify specific areas that all clients you’ve worked with have improved in.
Example: “Your grace and style was very helpful in our conversations. You have made the most of the experience and understand that everything is perfect, just the way it is.”

Email #2: Highlights from their coaching experience with you. Remind them of the growth and achievements you’ve experienced together, and how you celebrated these achievements. Again, identify specific areas that all clients you’ve worked with have improved.
Example: “Together we have watched your preconceived ideas turn around and be reframed to see the sometimes surprising and maybe even unexpected value you bring to your clients.”

Email #3: Value they have received. Since you market to a specific target, and you know the value you provide, this is easy. My example below lists only one item per section, but in the actual email I list all aspects of what I help my client achieve.
Example: “In the area of Living Consciously: You have learned heart-based spiritual selling and education-based marketing. In the area of Life Skills: You have stopped putting attention to what doesn’t work. In the area of Leadership and Development: You have a better balance in your daily and weekly schedule.”

Email #4: A survey that contains a coaching evaluation. “In the Forms section of your dashboard, you will find the Coaching Evaluation form.”

Email #5: One last thing as we complete the process of Exit Strategy 101 is to have them update the goal section of their first strategy session for completeness.

The process is very simple.

Live, Learn and give love.

Love & Light,
Karen Monteverdi, CPC
